The goal of our Everyday Social Skills group is to increase functional social skills that your child can use in everyday social settings. Our groups focus on reinforcing positive behaviors such as following instructions and routines, functional communications skills, and positive non-verbal communication skills such as eye contact.
Each session will run 60 minutes and will concentrate on a different skill. "Homework" is assigned to increase the generalization of skills beyond the group session. Skills typically worked on in group include: meeting people, beginning and ending a conversation, listening skills (e.g., eye contact, turn-taking in conversation), working cooperatively, and following directions.
Parents will be asked to complete a short questionnaire prior to a child's participation in the group. This questionnaire will help us to determine your child's current level of functioning and also provide us with feedback regarding your child's unique areas of concern.
Everyday Social Skills groups are typically divided by age; 9 to 11 years old and 12-15 years old. Kids who might benefit from this program are those with High Functioning Autism, Asperger's or Pervasive Developmental Delays. The groups are limited in size and will be filled on a first come first served basis.
Each group lasts six sessions, over the course of six consecutive weeks. Everyday Social Skills Groups may be insurance billable. You are encouraged to check with your insurance company regarding your policy's reimbursement.
